The Geoscientific Society of Rajasthan on 21st October 2023 arranged handing over of “Sample box of common Rocks and minerals” to the MDS SCHOOL, Hiran Magari, Sector 3, Udaipur. On this occasion the Guests talked to the students on introduction to Geology, it’s role in public life, academics to economics.
It started with warm & cordial welcome by the Teaching staff and students.
Dr. M. K. Somani gave brief idea on the GSR’s objectives and its role to induce enthusiasm among young school students. He briefly explained about origin and evolution of the Earth, origin of rocks & formation of continents, Plate Tectonics etc.
Dr. Maya Chaudhary, Assistant professor of Geology, Mohan Lal Sukhadia University gave a presentation about “Awareness about subject Geology as Profession???. She talked about Carrier progression in Geology through Graduation, Post Graduation, Research and its commercial applications that was well received by the students of 8th to 10th classes. She also briefly explained role of field work in learning the Geology and various job opportunities after Post Graduation and research in Geology. She said that students are welcome to visit the “Rode Museum” in the Department of Geology. She also informed about the Rajasthan Government’s future plan to introducing Geology subject in schools of Rajasthan and books being written for it.
Mr Arun Maloo, Ex- Superintending Geologist, DMG briefly explained about how to obtain licences for exploration, development and mining in Rajasthan. He also explained about how the importance of rocks and minerals played important role in human evolution.
Shri K. L. Jagetiya, Ex-General Manager (Geology), ONGC gave brief about generation, migration, accumulation and preservation of oil and gas (Petroleum). Exploration methods and principles for petroleum exploration & development and role of ONGC in India’s energy sector were also explained by him.
The students and teachers found the event very interesting and enlightening.
A sample box and a chart were handed over to School administration for display in library/ Atal laboratory of the school. The Patron of school informed that the school is the first school to have “Atal Tinkering laboratory” in Udaipur division.
The Trustee Prof. R. C. Somani, thanked the Geoscientist society and its speakers for enlightening the students. He told students to look for rocks and minerals while going in the hills for picnics and create their own museum. He requested to the speakers to be available whenever the students need for any rock or mineral identification & explanation.
In the end the speakers were honoured by Trustee of MDS Society Prof. R. C. Somani and Patron of the school Smt Pushpa Somani with “Uparana” and a memento of the MDS School.
